Innovative Blood Tests Can Help Prevent Serious Disease
Well, you can!
A new screening method can identify people at risk of heart attack and stroke, according to research presented at the International Society of PharmacoEconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) Annual Meeting in Quebec.
The test examines a sample of a person’s blood and checks for three inflammatory biomarkers than can signal future heart attack and stroke risk, with each biomarker test costing $20 to $50.
Researchers say that if a U.S. health plan with 1 million members adopted this testing method, 2,018 heart attacks and 1,848 strokes could be prevented.
Cholesterol testing is a standardized way to predict heart attack risk, but adding inflammatory testing to the equation, making it a multi-health marker test, is what makes this risk test stand out.
This biomarker test isn’t anything new to us, because at PreDiabetes Centers we look at several different biomarkers—from fasting blood glucose and insulin to testosterone, vitamin D, cholesterol and C-peptide (a measurement of inflammation). Our multi-health marker test is FREE (and is valued at $1,200 if you or your insurance company were to test each marker individually!).
